    Comments:

Bought this bicycle on April and now it rode more than 1000 km, so I think I have enough experience on this bike to share with. I was looking carefully about buying new bike, these reviews made a lot of impact in my decision. I went to other city to buy it, because in Lithuania only one place you have official Trek dealer. First thing I noticed in a dealer - different pedals from these in photo. They were terrible instead of these great red ones. Nevermind, I thought, pedals could be changed. I went to other city to buy this bike, so pedals are just minor detail. Another great disappointment - frame. It is in great shape, I love its curves, but it gets abrasions very easy. I mean it - very very easy. I noticed that in a shop when there was little some kind of dirt even the polish pasta could not removed. That was ok for that time, even the dirt was clearly noticed. Well, I didn't take it in mind. I bought it. First thing I did in my city, changed the saddle - it is cruel to sit on original saddle without special pants. Maybe because of dealer incompetence, I hear pedalling sound from bottom bracket all the time. I think there are too less lubricant but for this amount of money you expect to get everything ready. Another thing is grips - my fingers get numb after longer than ~10,20km trip. I bought ends on handlebar, but still it is problem. With other bikes I own I don't have this problem. One more issue - I rode into a hole on the road - rear tube gets empty - it bursted not on the single hole in it, but ALL the way round on its glue line - I doubt about quality of this brand tubes. And finally one more disappointment about frame - I got on the bike, accidentally touched the frame upper tube - done, I have scratches on the most visible part without possible remove them, although there were no sand or gravel on my shoes. With all that being said, bike itself is fast, durable and provides you many happy kilometres. Problem is, that I can compare it to other bikes I own, and it is really sad that for this amount of money (this Trek bike is the most expensive in my collection) you have these kinds of issues.

I decided to try cycling as a way to lose weight and get in to shape. I bought a K2 bike and started out and really enjoyed the sport. I decided to upgrade and purchased a Trek DS 8.6 and man am I glad I did. I now love riding a bike. What a difference high quality equipment makes. If any one out there reads this take my advice and invest in this machine.

I have a 2013 model and I'm glad Trek has decided to remove the funky rubber rear suspension feature. It's worked itself loose several times, and frankly I see no purpose for it. This is an exceptional bike!

        Comments:

Bought this last fall to start riding again after 10 years not riding. The bike comes with a good all around component package and comfortable geometry. I recently switched the fork to a fixed fork. (That should be an option on this bike.) Updated the seat post to carbon and changed the tires. Put the crank Bros. 50/50 flat pedals and ride it about 70-80 miles a week. It is a great commuter and tour biked now. I absolutely recommend this bike and look forward to years of riding on it.

I purchased this bike yesterday over the Giant Roam 0 simply because of the level of stability it provided while cycling. I felt the combination of tires and superior construction made it a no brainer to bump up my price range to get this bicycle.

Good for reliable day to day commuting The addition speed gained by switching from a mounting bike is a bonus, though the thinner tyres make the ride a little bumpy

              Comments:

It seem strange to write a review for an item that is so personal. My comfort and experience will be different from anyone else's. Having said that, I was having quite a bit of discomfort in my shoulders and hands. After working with dealer, they put a higher neck that brought the handle bar up. This greatly improved the issue. The pedals feel like my feet will come off, the saddle is not comfortable (I will replace). Cable was shredded. Dealer opened new box to replace and found it also shredded straight out of box, indicating quality control issue. I really do love the brakes and components. Probably more of a bike than I need. Mostly recreational, weekend rides in neighborhood, camping, etc. Frame shape makes it difficult to have drink and lock attached at same time. Beautiful finish and overall quality.

              Comments:

I moved from very bike friendly San Diego to small town in frontier Arizona. The roads out here ate my road bike alive. I was thinking I wasn't going to be able to ride anymore. Thank God I discoverd the DS. I didn't want to go back to mountain bike and wanted something tougher than hybrid. The DS answered the call. It is just a blast to ride. Handles like a dream and can take whatever the Southeast Arizona wilderness dishes out.

              Comments:

I'm a road cyclist who was looking for a decent quality bike to ride during the "off season" when the paved roads are covered with fall leaves, winter crud and potholes - and for "in season" rides on surfaces that the 700 x 25 tires of my carbon frame road bike just don't cut. The Trek DS 8.6 fits that bill perfectly ... its 700 x 38 tires are just right for the surfaces I ride, the front fork with remote lockout give me an instant choice - and the hydraulic disc brakes provide great stopping and control. The component group is consistent with good level of quality throughout. It's everything that I was looking for - without the overkill that a full blown mountain bike would be for my needs. Plus, it's at a price point that didn't break the bank. My only wish would have been to have had another color choice ... the "pseudo chrome" look of silver paint is a little gaudy for my tastes.
